About Dr. Wygant

My relationship with sport began long before I became a psychologist. My father introduced me to golf as a kid, and I was immediately captivated. I loved the challenge of the game, the endless pursuit of improvement, and the feeling that no round was ever quite the same. As I competed in multiple sports throughout high school, I became increasingly fascinated by the mental side of performance. I saw firsthand how confidence, focus, emotions, and perspective could influence every pass, shot, game, or match.

That curiosity ultimately became my passion and my career.

I earned a master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Florida State University, where I specialized in performance psychology and became a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), the premier credential in applied sport psychology. I then completed a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Eastern Kentucky University, expanding my training to include advanced clinical assessment, psychological treatment, and a deeper understanding of the mental and emotional factors that influence performance and well-being. Throughout my graduate training, I also founded and developed a youth basketball program where I integrated sport psychology principles directly into practices and competition. I coached teams and managed a staff of coaches, training them to incorporate psychological skills such as confidence, focus, resilience, and emotional regulation into their work with young athletes.

My background in both sport psychology and clinical psychology shapes the way I work with athletes. While many performance consultants focus solely on mental skills, my training and experience helps me to understand the whole person behind the performance. I help athletes build confidence, improve focus, perform under pressure, and develop practical mental skills, while also recognizing how stress, identity, emotions, and overall well-being influence performance over time.

But my work extends beyond helping athletes play better.

I believe sport is one of life's greatest teachers. Competition has a unique way of revealing our strengths, exposing our weaknesses, and giving us opportunities to grow. My goal is not simply to help athletes perform at a higher level—it's to help them develop the mindset, character, and perspective that allow them to pursue excellence in both competition and life.

Ironically, I have found that when athletes become less consumed by outcomes and more committed to learning, growing, and competing with courage, presence, and purpose, better performance often follows naturally.

Whether I'm working with a junior golfer preparing for their first national tournament, a collegiate athlete navigating the pressures of competition, or a professional striving for consistency at the highest level, my mission remains the same: to help athletes pursue excellence while enjoying the process, competing with freedom, and becoming the best version of themselves.

Because in the end, the greatest victories in sport aren't just measured on the scoreboard, they're reflected in the person we become through the pursuit.

"Dr. Wygant provided me an extensive foundation to the mental game. We developed strategies to help me with first tee nerves, practice, and the value in mental practice and preparation for taking it low in tournaments. I can attribute a large deal of my mental strength as a golfer and a person to the work I did with Dr. Wygant."

Ben Borgida,

"Thank you, Dr. Wygant, for the dynamic message you delivered at our high school golf banquet. Your speech and philosophy towards the sport of golf and young golfers helped shape the trajectory of some of my top golfers. Your passion gave everyone in the room increased confidence and validation on what we are trying to accomplish in high school golf."

Coach RAY Williams

"As a mother of a teen baseball player and a therapist myself, I’m incredibly grateful for the support my son received from Jack. Anxiety was holding him back both on and off the field, but Jack helped him regain confidence, focus, and a genuine love for the game again. The change has been remarkable—he plays with a calmer mind and a renewed sense of belief in himself. I couldn’t recommend Jack more."
